Marie - Camp Coordinator

Hey everyone! My name is Marie and I will be camp coordinator for the third time at the Peace Camp, nice to meet you! My pronouns are she/her 🙂

I’m French and to be more precise I’m from Brittany, a region in the north-west of France, where we eat good crepes, drink cider and surf. 🏄 My role with AFS and EFIL? I started working for EFIL in September 2022 as a project manager, I’m coordinating the Peace Programme, the Volunteer Summer Summit and other volunteer events. I’m an outsider, as you say eheh because unfortunately, I’ve never done an AFS exchange. However, I have had the opportunity to move around the last few years, for example in Czech Republic during my Erasmus or in Rome where I worked for an NGO last year. I’m very happy to be part of this adventure with you. Fun fact about me? I’m teaching yoga and I’m an overthinker. My motivations for this Peace 2024? I see it as a challenge and a great opportunity to meet volunteers from the network. It’s possible that we’ll do a yoga session together during Peace. I love yoga and I’ve been teaching it for over a year now. Apart from that, I’m a very good listener, sociable and I always try to be positive.

Angie - Participants Coordinator

Cześć & Ola everyone!

My name is Angie, I have been an AFS volunteer for the last 10 years, but I have never been on an AFS exchange. I went for my Erasmus program twice to Portugal, the country I call my second home, and I lived there for the last 4 years.

Since June 2024 I have been on the European Solidarity Corps volunteering program in the EFIL office as Participant Coordinator for PEACE Camps – my main role is to keep contact with students of the PEACE program, so do not be surprised I know everyone’s names!

This will be my 5th time as a volunteer in Destelheide – I have been coming to ECTP/ PEACE Camps since 2018 as Support Team, Support Team Coordinator or PR Coordinator. This shows it is not my first time in Brussels, but living in the city is a very different experience – full of interculturality that I loved from Lisbon so much!

2 truths and 1 lie:
1) I have two host sisters: from Guatemala and Italy
2) My favorite food is tomato
3) I love One Piece and want to sail the world

Cannot wait to meet you all in this incredibly diverse Camp where we make the first step to change the world – by changing ourselves.

Andrew24

Andrew - Public Relations Coordinator

I’m Andrew, and I’m the PR Coordinator for Destelheide at PEACE camp this year! I’m from a place called Galway in the west of Ireland, and I think it’s the best part of the country even though it rains so so so very much.

I’ve been an AFS volunteer for nearly ten years, and I’ve been a volunteer at the Volunteer Summer Summit with EFIL for the past two years on the Support/PR team and the Trainers team. I’ve never been to a PEACE camp, even though I did an exchange as part of the PEACE programme in 2015 (it was called ECTP then). I had to come home a little early so I missed the camp, and I’ve been looking forward to going as a volunteer ever since!

I know how much of an impact PEACE can have on participants because I’ve mentored loads of Irish students who went in the last few years, so I can’t wait to be a part of a great week in Brussels! 🙂

Raffaella24

Raffaella - Support Team Coordinator

Hello everyone!
My name is Raffaella, I’m from Italy, and I have been volunteering with AFS ever since I returned from my exchange year in Sweden. In these almost fifteen years of volunteering, I’ve held various roles: I’ve been a liaison for several foreign students in my local chapter, trained both Italian and foreign families and students, taken on various coordination and support roles, participated in many national and international events, and this year I will be the Support Team Coordinator at Destelheide.

Having been an exchange student myself, I know that going abroad is not enough—you need to understand the world and have the tools to do so. The PEACE camp offers a growth opportunity that goes far beyond learning a new language or spending a simple school period abroad.

Three things that make me happy:
– Asian food
– Korean skincare
– Reading a book wrapped in a cozy blanket with a cup of tea in hand while it rains outside… or alternatively, a PlayStation session while eating pizza.

I can’t wait to be part of this experience with all of you! See you soon!

Natalia24-2

Natalia - Trainers Team Coordinator

Hey, hey, everybody!
My name is Natalia and I’m very excited to see you at PEACE this year!

I was born and raised in Russia but had a chance to live in 3 other beautiful countries — Norway, Denmark, and Germany (where I currently live)!

Outside of AFS I love to travel and have every creative hobby possible, I also study media and communications.

I’ve been an active AFS volunteer for the last 3 years and PEACE Camp has always been one of my favorite events within the network as you meet great people, get a sense of belonging, and see that your actions matter! This year I am a Trainer Team Coordinator and can’t wait for you to hear about the workshops we are preparing!
